GREGOR REISCH 1503 WORLD MAP COMPLETE UNCUT Map Maker: Gregor Reisch Place / Date: Freiburg / 1503 Coloring: Uncolored Size: 15.75 x 11 inches Condition: VG First edition of Gregor Reisch’s untitled map of the World, widely regarded as the first printed map to provide information concerning Columbus’ discoveries in the New World. The legend which appears on the Ptolemaic land bridge along the bottom connecting Southeast Asia to Africa states, in Latin, that here there is not land but sea, in which there are such islands not known to Ptolemy. This may be in reference to Australasia, the Spice Islands, or most likely, the Caribbean. Parts of the border area showing the winds are under the mat, this may be because the sheet has been trimmed, as is common with this map. Some wear and small closed tears near the left side, what appears to be a mend at the top center, otherwise in Very Good condition.
